Bathgate Forge Knife
Contact us if you would like a knife to find out about costs and lead times.
Own your very own knife by James Bathgate. These are not our mild-steel, decorative table-ware knives, but real, fully-functioning tool knives, designed for camp-craft and outdoor use.
Hand forged, heat-treated, hardened, tempered, ground, sharpened, honed, and handled, all in The Bathgate Forge, these knives are made from o1 tool steel, or Damascus I hand-forge from EN42 and 15N20, so will take a keen, easy-to-maintain edge. Since becoming more proficient, and with better tooling, I can now make knives of almost any shape.
I oil these with camellia oil as it’s food-safe. Being made from high-carbon steels, these must be oiled to remain rust-free, and should be cared for and regularly-maintained using whet-stones and a strop.
They take me over 3 days to make, or four if you’d like a custom-made sheath, so that is reflected in the price and lead-time. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing one of my knives. They start at £80 for a blacksmith’s knife with a scandi-grind, and our most popular birch-handled model goes for £120, but the sky’s the limit dependent on what you’d like, including mirror-finishing, stabilised scales etc. Anything’s possible (knife-sized!).
I occasionally keep a small stock, so check back here to see if I’ve made one for the store!
You must be over 18 years of age to purchase a knife from The Bathgate Forge.
